1. Korak: Into the Depths Synopsis: As the earthquakes continue, Korak searches for Meriem, and falls into a deeper cavern where black, charred "molten men" capture him. He is taken to a vast towering furnace which slaves are driven to fuel. Korak spots Meriem among the workers and the two lovers embrace warmly. Soon the leader of the molten men summons the slaves to the "game," where the contestants are forced out onto pedestals sticking up from a lava pit to battle each other with long poles. Instead of fighting, Korak uses his pole to vault back to land, throwing himself into battle with the molten men. The other slaves follow his lead and vault off of their pedestals and join the fight. Korak grabs Meriem and they flee into the interminable cave system. Soon they come to a deadend and are recaptured. This time the leader explains that the purpose of the giant furnace is to increase the surface temperature until the upper earth is destroyed and he is the master of all. When the two lovers are sentenced to be burned up in the furnace, Korak breaks free but is soon beaten senseless. As Meriem is taken to be burned alive, Korak finds a water pipe and directs it straight at the furnace, causing a terrific explosion. Knocked senseless, he comes to when Professor Drood wakes him up and assures him that the entire episode was a dream. Drood brings him back to the surface of the earth where they emerge beside the volcano in Pal-ul-don. 2. The Ape Vine (letters page with Krenkel logo art)
