1. Korak: The Outcasts Synopsis: Professor Drood and Korak decide to voyage to the "Outcast" Islands, which lie in the latitude of the eternal fog banks. They build a stout raft and follow the currents south. Passing through the fog banks, they sight land and immediately a giant cyclops begins hurling boulders at their boat. They jump off and swim just as a rock sinks the raft, and Korak has to fight a giant shark underwater. Coming up on the beach, Korak senses danger and after rushing into the jungle finds a giant python enwrapped around a small boy. The son of Tarzan kills the snake by driving his knife into its skull. The boy leads Korak and Drood to a large amphitheater of caves where the "outcasts" live. Their leader explains that they are all deformed because, years before, some kind of nuclear type of explosion in the sea created a cloud of radiation that swept upon their islands, causing the fog. Just then, the cyclops appears, who happens to be the worst and most hateful of the outcasts. While he is descending the cliff to kill both intruders, Korak ties a vine to a large rock to use as a weapon. When the cyclops grips him in a killing bearhug, Korak swings the rock and sinks it into the giant's forehead. That night they have a celebration around the campfire, and a girl with a veil approaches Korak and makes pathetic advances to the youth, kissing and embracing with him. But as Korak sits by the fire that night, all he can see in the smoke rising up is a vision of Meriem, who he has vowed to search for to the ends of the earth. Remarks: Murphy Anderson, the artist who was also drawing the DC John Carter of Mars strip, takes over from Thorne this issue. His Korak is a bit more adult than Thorne's sweet-sixteen kid, but still not quite reaching the maturity level that the character had enjoyed during the Dan Spiegle run. 2. 5. Carson of Venus: Duare, Princess of Venus Synopsis: Carson's ship approaches a Thorist vessel, which does not suspect it as a rogue ship. During the night Carson and a companion sneak aboard the other ship and manage to kidnap the Ongyan, or leader, Mooska. With him as hostage Carson negotiates for the transfer of all the ship's prisoners, and is quite surprised when he finds out that the girl he had fallen in love with back in Vepaja turns out to be the janjong, Duare, who has been captured by the thorists. Remarks: This episode is based loosely on chapter 11 of Pirates of Venus, but it combines two episodes from the novel into one and makes the Sovong the same ship as the Yan, using events from chapters 12 and 13.
