Synopsis: Korak aids a young hunter who is beset by two lions, and they each kill one. The black wears a mail vest and carries a sword and shield along with his spear. He is trying to become a knight of Queen Tandika, a native ruler who has set up a court of chivalry. The price for honor is a lion skin, and when Billali and Korak return they are joined by another knight, Mandyama, in presenting their skins before the queen. Each are rewarded with a handmaiden for a bride, and Korak challenges Mandyama for a young white girl. They have to have a joust on horseback for her, and Korak soundly defeats Mandyama. Korak is made a knight of Tandika, he and the girl are married, and that night in their quarters Korak discusses escape with the enslaved nurse. They climb out over the wall and get an elephant to carry them off.

Remarks: Korak explains to Sue that his real name is "John Clayton," indicating that Jack is a nickname for John, and he is named after his father as his father was before him and his son afterward.

Synopsis: In Pal-ul-don, Korak tracks a torodon brute, who has kidnapped a Ho-don girl, high up a mountain above the snow line. Inside the volcano cup is a warm fertile valley where the torodons hide out. After dark Korak slips away with the girl, with the whole tribe in hot pursuit. As they climb the crest of the mountain Korak manages to dislodge an overhanging snow cornice and it buries the torodons. Korak and El-lee are able to make it back out and find Ta-den's hunting party.

Remarks: One of the rare times we get to see Korak tramp through ice-cold snow in a loincloth.
